To initiate the authentication procedure, it is necessary to send a low resolution digital image of the front and back of the artwork to the email address direzione@archiviocarmassi.it, together with its dimensions, a telephone contact number, and all available information concerning the work itself.
The Archive will then carry out an internal verification in order to ascertain whether the artwork is already recorded in its archives, subsequently communicating the corresponding archive number to the collector.
Upon request, the Archive may issue a certificate of authenticity. For this purpose, two professional color photographs of the front and two of the back are required, in 15 × 20 cm format, together with the corresponding high resolution digital images at 300 dpi.
Should the artwork not be registered in the Archive, and should thorough examination deemed necessary, it will be requested to submit it for direct inspection by the Scientific Committee for certification purposes.
The Scientific Committee of the Arturo Carmassi Archive carries out its activities on an annual basis, according to a schedule determined internally.
The invitation to attend the examination session will be communicated by the Archive via email, indicating the date of the next meeting of the Scientific Committee. The examination will take place at the headquarters located at Via Ramoni 116, Fucecchio (Florence).
At the time of the appointment, the following materials and documentation must be prepared and delivered:
- 2 professional color photographs of the artwork and 2 photograph of the reverse side
- the artwork without frame
- all available documentation concerning the provenance and history of the artwork, including, by way of example and without limitation:
- title or subject
- dimensions expressed in centimeters (HxWxD), with and without frame, where applicable with or without pedestal, and without passe-partout
- presence of signature and date, including indication of their placement
- any participation in exhibitions and indication of public or private collections
- provenance, if known, specifying previous transfers of ownership (commission, donation, purchase, inheritance), together with the date of acquisition
- any handwritten documentation relating to the artwork, accompanied, where possible, by photographic reproductions
- bibliographic references, including author and title of the volume or essay, page numbers, place and year of publication
- any further information known and considered relevant
- the information required for the issuance of the invoice (name, surname, address, and tax code)
Delivery operations will take place by the agreed-upon date. The return will be made once the Scientific Committee’s work has concluded.
Payment of the fee for examination and archival registration must be made in advance by bank transfer.
Upon return of the artwork, the invoice and the official archival certificate will be issued, stating the outcome of the evaluation in terms of authenticity or non-authenticity.
